Bells Ring (1997)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

I once mingled with the great.
I left my pleasure in their palaces and temples.
I saw the rulers and their power, and they took from me my envy.
An old and tired man said, 'give me your regrets,' and he walked away stooping with the burden.
The people clenched and armed fist in revolt against an unjust ruler;
though I did not touch a weapon, there I left my contentment.
To a person beautiful within as without I gave my love.
It caused a horrible transformation to a monster with yawning jaws;
into its fiery throat I cast my hate.
Demons of the dark devoured my fear;
I slit my throat, hope flowed from the wound; the world ended.
A child stood by the holocaust and I pressed my innocence into its trembling hand.
I gave my pain to the tortured child, and my pity when it died.
At last I came to vat so large it reached the far corners of the directions;
it held a foul-smelling brew, Into this I put my guilt.
Carefully lowering it not to splash.

Delyrical (2001)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Compassion, happiness, world peace.
. . . He says, happiness, world peace.

Ethics for the new millennium from a Dalai Lama.

Compassion, happiness, world peace.
. . . He says, happiness, world peace.

Goin' Home (2004)
Inational ~ 2007

The man from Nantucket
got a hole in the bucket.
He says, well . . .
that's why I'm goin' home.

The old mare, she died;
horse gods have no pride;
I tell you, I cried;
that's why I'm goin' home.

I have an appointment
with the fly of the ointment;
the barrel is cracked,
the bad apple is back,
it's very sad sack 'n
that's why I'm goin' home.

Wake up 'nthe morning;
its zero and snowing;
today's just a throw-in;
that's why I'm stayin' home.

Good Things (1978)
Al Burger Greatest Hits ~ 2004

Brothers of all nations,
man the battle stations;
sisters, sound the call,
tomorrow is the fall;
children, heed the warning:
love is in the morning.
Life is everywhere.
Dandelion seeds of hope floating in the air,
find a fertile spot somewhere.

Brothers of all nations,
man the battle stations;
sisters, sound the call,
tomorrow is the fall;
children, heed the warning:
love is in the morning.
Life is everywhere.

Ask me tomorrow, not today.
Never listen to what I say.

Brothers of all nations,
man the battle stations;
sisters, sound the call,
tomorrow is the fall;
children, heed the warning:
love is in the morning.
Life is everywhere.

Good things everywhere.
Good things everywhere.
Good things everywhere.

Gospel (2003)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Hail to thee, oh Silent One.
Heard within, sounds the hum.
Through the quiet of the heart leads the quest for peace.
From the void . . .
Creative.
Providing.

Heart of Gold (2004)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Heart of gold.
Heart of truth.
Heart so pure.
Heart that's free.

Heart of gold.
Heart of the light.
Heart that speaks.
Heart so free.

He Come Soon (1999)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Ho, ho, ho, holy man he come soon.
Bound by the round of the moon.
Holiness is in the angled beam of the moon.

Ho, ho, ho, holy one she come done.
Gone in the round of the sun.
Holiness is in the fiery center of sun.

Ho,ho,ho, holiness seen from afar.
Far out beyond yonder star.
Holiness is in the cold blue light of a star.

Ho, ho, ho, holiness us surround.
Bound living sound to the ground.
Holiness is mother earth by whom we abound.

Infrasound (2005)
Inational ~ 2007

Low growl;
thunder;
volcano;
earthquake;
fright'ning, fearful sound.

Sing low,
head down;
lowest note,
eyes cast down;
the highest turn
the eyes to heaven,

A beautiful symbol,
maybe a message
from the body,
warning of danger
that lurks in infrasound.

Let it Rock (1997)
Inational ~ 2007

When you're down, out of town, feeling like a clown, let it rock.
When you're low, feeling slow, instead of letting go, let it rock.
When there's holes in your soles, let it rock, rock and roll.
Rock. Rock 'n roll.
Rock. Rock 'n roll.
They say, 'don't do it, son', it's not for everyone, bur let it rock;
You gotta walk the walk, and talk the talk, let it rock.
Rock. Rock 'n roll.
Rock, rock. Rock 'n roll.
Rock, rock, rock. Rock 'n roll.
Rock, rock, rock, rock. Rock 'n roll.
Rock, rock, rock'n roll all night long to soothe the soul.
There's nothing that can make you whole like good old-fashioned rock'n roll.

Little Children (1998)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

How long, little children, how long.

Long gone, little children, long gone.

Hold on, little children, hold on.

Come on, Come on, my little children, come on now.

We are one, little children, little children, we are one.

Lord and Lady (1990)
Al Burger Greatest Hits ~ 2004

For the Lord and the Lady of Earth and of Sky.

They build temples and fill them with gold.
Revere studied texts, sacred and old.
Paths are painful and long,
lined with sin and with wrong.
Naming the Lord in every tongue.
Ah, yai yai ya hai.
Oh, yo yo yo ho.
Name the Lady in every tongue.
Ooh, you you hoo hoo.
Hey, yey hey hey yey.

Blood is spilled in the name of the One.
Lost soul of Woman, lost spirit of Man.
Can't they see where they have gone?
Don't they know what they have done?
Curse the Lady in every tongue.
Ah, yai yai ya hai.
Oh, yo yo yo ho.
Cursing the Lord in every tongue.
Ooh, you you hoo hoo.
Hey, yey hey hey yey.

Tell it on the mountain, shout it to the sky;
proclaim it to all: the lowly and high.
Worshipful voices in song,
sound of a glad rejoicing throng,
praising the Lord in every tongue.
Ah, yai yai ya hai.
Oh, yo yo yo ho.
Praise the Lady in every tongue.
Ooh, you you hoo hoo.
Hey, yey hey hey yey.
Praising the Lord in every tongue.
Ah, yai yai ya hai.
Hey, yey hey hey yey.

Lord, Lady, of Earth, of Sky.

Love (1976)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

"'Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all,"
a poet wrote in the nineteenth century.
A man may love his house well and yet not ride upon the ridge,
and I still don't know what it means.

My love for you is what I am, and I am being what I can.
You touch me and I touch you; that's the only love that's true.

Star bright, true light, extinguished for a million years.
Dawns the sun, be it gone, some other vantage point but me.

Maybe So (1998)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

"Come unto me." he said to me;
"Why can't you see that you may be mistaken?"
No.
"Do unto me." he said to me,
"and I will show you who you have forsaken."
No.
I will not see what cannot be;
I will not be the one who drives the stake in.
No.

Oh-oh, don't you know.
Maybe so.
Reap what you sow.
How will it grow, bent down low?

"Do onto me," she said to me,
"and let me tell you what is your desire."
No.
"Come into me," she said to me,
and in your rut you may become a sire.
No
I will not see what cannot be;
I will not be the one who sets the fire.
No.

Oh-oh, don't you know.
Maybe so.
Reap what you sow.
How will it grow, bent down low?

"Come unto me." he said to me;
"Why can't you see that you may be mistaken?"
No.
"Do unto me." he said to me,
"and I will show you who you have forsaken."
No.
I will not see what cannot be;
I will not be the one who drives the stake in.
No.

Musical Time (2001)
Al Burger Greatest Hits ~ 2004

Head on to the line.
Feeling in my prime.
Maybe it's a sign,
that music out of time.

Going down the line.
Think I'm doing fine.
Dressed up to the nines.
Music mighty fine.

Lay it on the line.
Never mind the time.
Feeling is sublime.
Music is divine.

Nine One One (1999)
Inational ~ 2007

Listen to the children cry.
Don't know why, I don't know why.
But you and i, we can watch them die.
It's nine one one. They tied the can
to the taliban, so that we can see the man
going to afghanistan, fighting with the boogyman,
way out in afghanistan.
Nine one one and how. It is here and now,
with scythe and plow, happy for to take a bow

It is nine one one, and they tied the can
to those awful taliban, so that we can watch the man
going to afghanistan.
Get a gun, they're on the run. Set to stun it's way more fun.
There is no joy for the soldier boy,
Used like a toy by hoi polloi.
Listen to the children cry.
You and I, we see them die.

Nine one one and how, it is here and now,
with scythe and plow, happy for to take a bow,
at how they tied the can to those beastly taliban,
so that we can watch the man going to afghanistan,
With the gun. Make them run. Soldier boy, just a toy.
Listen to the children cry.
Don't know why, I don't know why,
but you and i, we can watch them die.

All because of nine one one

Rainscape (1977)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Winds hurled high in the air.
Distant roll of thunder sounded from somewhere.
Lightning rent evening's peace with strife,
in fiery flashes of eternal life.

Speedy clouds drove the night away.
Filled the heavens with a dull slate grey.
Hail had summer's tale in stone,
of winter's cold that chills the bone.

Raindrops poured from the sky.
Fell on grass so green it got me high.
Shimmering puddles on the ground,
show my reflection as I look down.

Wavery image that I see,
how can I know which is really me?
Lightning strikes with deafning din.
Is the world without not the world within?

The view from a raindrop's window pane is the sparkling brilliance in the brain.
The glint of the sun on the waters of life as it drops by drops in the rain.
Water flows in torrents to the sea; an ocean of waves engulfing me:
The image in the rainscape that I see.

Road of Life (1977)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

On the road of life I once met an old woman.
Spoke to me from out a toothless mouth.
'Young girl,' said she,
'you cannot see,
wash out your eyes.
Lend and ear
for to hear
your own muted cries.
I offer you
what is true,
for fear that it dies.'
Mother, have mercy on me!
Deep in her eyes
burns a fierce flame.
To my surprise,
she said my name.

On the road of life I once met an old woman.
Reached for me with a trembling hand.
Into my chest
her fingers pressed
a burden divine.
I'm reeling
with the feeling
of knowing it is mine.
The weight
is too great
for powers as mine.
Mother, have mercy on me!
Inside her palm
she holds a stone;
into my calm
it shone and shone,

and left a melody:
'Shining Mane draws the day in for Elf Beam to light;
dew drops fall off Frost Mane, from east brings the night.'

On the road to death I once met an old woman.
Magic wisdom of the other I:
'Fire is
the fairest gift
for those of our name.
To see the sun
for everyone
is power to tame.
Sun turn black,
Earth crack,
life-feeding flame.'
Mother, have mercy on me!
Inside her womb
she has a race.
Is it a tomb?
Each has its place.

On the road to life I once met a wise woman.
Prophesied of an ancient tree:
'Futures past,
known at last.
Wisdom is mine.
Sky has scars
where hot stars
blazed for a time.
Fire hot:
when it’s not,
icy cold rime.'
Mother, your mercy is me!
'Now I do see
the earth anew,
rising all green.
And left to you

is this melody:
Shining Mane draws the day in for Elf Beam to light;
dew drops fall off Frost Mane, from east brings the night.'

Schizo (1997)
Albert and all that Jazz ~ 2005

People can experience what's substantially the same sound and each hear something different.
I call that schizo.
It can be light and airy as a fairy or, powerfully glum.

Silver Lining (1999)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Look for the silver lining, tia-la-la-dee-dah-dee-dah.
Defenders of the faith, heroes of the revolution, martyrs to the cause, victims by evolution.
They say you should not grieve too much if some loved person dies ahead of you.
They join your fighting friends in battle with the others round the house where you lay dying.
Look for the silver lining, tia-la-la-dee-dah-dee-dah.
Something amiss on her planet?

What's the matter with his conscience?

Every cloud is dark-metal-edged. But no-one wants to hear that part.

Anything wrong in your neighborhood?

Spirit and Power (1977)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Ancient days found one who Free, power prest relentless.
Nidhog's gnawing flakelike Midgard falling.
Mirkwood-guarded Thiot Mark, beneath boots blacked by power pains.
Countless feet encased implore the Worlds, the unbent neck to tame the Free!
Ravens two from Odin's hall truth carry thee.

Spake a voice, Hela-pressed:
"As Ygdrasil holds Ginungagap's disgorgings, so power supports this midmost place.
Sacred law is mine, what god is here?"

The shield hand, the spear hand held in ready; in me resides my faith.
Deeds for Tir accomplished, Noen-fated fall: That of Ragnarok Y gdrasil not withstand.

Terror not in gaping gap for scattered souls in ordered orbit.
Law is mine, as yet will be.
Who remains after Odin falls?

Ancient days found one who Free, power prest relentless.
Loki loosed, fraud and mischief follow.
Sons of Ask, daughters of Embla, huddling here unknowing.
Terror traces tear-streaked faces.
Sun-flecked locks shall not be shorn.
In icy cold was Ymir born.

Spake a tongues, Hela pressed:
"Aesir are ruled by Allfadur; Hammer-hurler split many a skull:
by Rig his children gained their stations."

Vanir-vanquished Aesir were; mighty mallet of thunder to Thrym:
who hight Rig that nma show? Ragnarok Ygdrasil not withstand.

Odin's kennings which he spoke. The wisdom held in peoples' heads:
stand fast before wayward ways: a shield when unsheltered thou art.

Ancient days found one who Free, power prest relentless.
Nidhog's gnawing flakelike Midgard falling.
Mirkwood-guarded Thiot Mark, beneath boots blacked by power pains.
Countless feet encased implore the Worlds, the unbent neck to tame the Free!
Ravens two from Odin' s hall truth carry thee.
Ravens two from Odin's hall truth carry thee.

Tall Tale (1976)
Al Burger Greatest Hits ~ 2004

From time to time
I say my line,
even if it isn't very good.
But when I'm lying
there's no denying
it has the ring of truth:

Tree reach to the sky,
Sun is in high.

The grass is growing,
the wind is blowing
upon the mountain top.
In the shade,
a mountain glade,
springs bubbling up.

Life giving Sun;
protective Father Moon;
Mother Earth nurtures;
forest spirits guide;
owl has a tale of fortune.

Tree reach to the sky,
Sun is in high.

The Learning (1998)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Why this yearning to be free?
What is the learning?

What's to say. Shout hurray.
Into the fray. Come what may.

Why this yearning to be free?
What is the learning to me.

Wind at my Back (1985)
Inational ~ 2007

I've got clean air in my face and the wind at my back;
it's smooth sailing apace, the stars in their track;
moving at the speed of light, leaving in the dead of night;
searching for the world of nowhere.

Clear trails appear; the omens are good;
its downhill from here to the old neighborhood;
moving at the speed of light, leaving in the dead of night;
searching for the world of nowhere.

Yarrow (1977)
Gospel according to Albert ~ 2006

Yarrow, wheelbarrow, hold on to my thumb.
Smiley, twinkley eyely, such a little bum.
Clap your hands and crow your song,
it sounds so sweet to me.
Yarrow, wheelbarrow, your life is just begun.
With your rosy cheeks,
innocent and meek.

Peace

Ymir and Odin (1976)
Al Burger Greatest Hits ~ 2004

Heavens arching above me, made of Ymir’s skull.
Rime-cold ice giant, slain to provide us all.
Of his blood the seas,
of his bones the mountains,
of his hair the trees,
of his brains the clouds.
Odin set the sun and the moon and stars
in their places in the heavens.
The sun began to shed its rays upon the earth.

Things started to bud and sprout,
the earth blossoming out.

Gods walked in the color of a new-created world.
Seemed to be lacking
people, beasts, and birds.
Embla, the woman,
made of an elm-branch;
the man, they called him Ask,
of an ashen spar.
Odin gave them life and soul.
